Accounting 

The Department is responsible for maintaining and administering a financial accounting and management information system that provides accurate, complete, and timely information about all financial activities of the Town of Great Barrington departments.

Animal Control

The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcement of all town laws related to animals.

Assessor

The Assessors department establishes market-based valuations throughout the town, using a Market Adjusted Cost Approach to value properties.

Building Department

The Building Department provides efficient, streamlined permitting services for properties in Great Barrington.

Department of Public Works

The Department of Public Works is comprised of the following four divisions: Highway, Cemetery/Parks, Building Maintenance, and Wastewater Treatment.

Fire Department

The Great Barrington Fire Department protects a diverse area with a substantial downtown, densely populated neighborhoods, large mills, rural areas with little water supply, mountains, fields, rivers, and lakes.

Health Department

The Health Department is responsible for ensuring compliance will all food service, septic system and well construction, lodging, public pools, recreational camps, residential housing, and tobacco regulations.

Highway Division

The Highway Division provides safe and maintained highways, sidewalks, and drainage systems for the residents of Great Barrington.

Library

Mason in Great Barrington and Ramsdell in Housatonic comprise The Great Barrington Libraries, a municipal department overseen by the Town Manager.

Planning Department

The Planning Department provides support to all staff and all Boards and Commissions on planning, zoning, and development matters, particularly to the Planning Board.
